Casp

This project began with an apartment in its original condition, with no particularly significant architectural features to restore or highlight. There were no hidden patterned cement-tile floors or distinctive details waiting to be uncovered. The challenge was different: to create a new identity and bring into the space the character we recognise in so many Barcelona apartments.

The renovation began with a new layout, designed to meet the client’s needs while creating a greater sense of space and continuity. The rooms connect naturally, allowing the apartment to feel like a cohesive whole, with each area retaining its own character while remaining connected to the others. Architecture became the means of reintroducing a classical architectural language.

The addition of Catalan vaulting brings texture and depth, while moulded doors and other carefully considered details introduce references to Barcelona’s traditional architecture. The aim was not to recreate a past that had never existed here, but to reinterpret it through a contemporary lens. The materials support this approach through a warm, understated palette in which every element has its place. Wood, natural tones and architectural details come together without competing for attention, creating a balanced, timeless atmosphere.

The result is a home that finds its identity in the dialogue between classical and contemporary design. An apartment that, without restoring original features, evokes the essence of Barcelona’s homes through proportion, texture, light and those small architectural details that make a space feel rooted in its city.
